Little Francis

The name he preferred for the child was: Francesco, which meant ‘Frenchman’. This pleased Pica well, for she took this to say that the baby looked more alike to her, than to him. Pica had been born in France. It also told her that Pietro approved of the infant, and that he could stay to be raised as his own child.

And so little Francis was to become a cloth trader’s son.

The fairy-child grew up as any mortal of wealth might do - content.
